SHADOW SELF HEALING
Your shadow self contains all the parts of yourself that you donât like and/or wonât acknowledge, and beliefs formed in your childhood that may still be governing your thoughts and behaviors in a counterproductive way. Itâs the part of yourself that uses your fears and sense of shame against you.
Unless youâre willing to look at the shadow part of yourself, you may never be aware that itâs at work when you choose: to settle for second best; keep eating when you should stop; or give up before you start because you donât think it will work out anyway. The cause of bad habits or harmful behaviors can most likely be found in your shadow self.
For years I struggled to lose weight. It was only when I finally looked at my shadow self (rather than just blaming myself for being a failure) that I realized that as a child I was often denied food as a form of punishment, and rewarded with treats for good behavior. As a result I had formed a belief associating the denial of food with suffering, and eating treats with pleasure, so that every time I tried dieting as an adult, I would feel punished, and when I cheated and gave myself treats, I felt love and pleasure.
Shadow-self healing is introspective work that can trigger a lot of denial, so wear or hold black obsidian and onyx to help bring what you need to see to the surface of your awareness, and chrysoprase, rhodochrosite, and mangano calcite so that you can heal what you need to with love.
